Institutional Level Biotech Hub (IBT Hub), A.D.P. College was established on 19th September, 2013 by DBT under special programme for North Eastern states of India (2012-2013). The objectives of the project was- establishment of biotechnology lab with basic set of equipments, organizing training/ workshops for students and teachers, biotechnology electronic journal access facility etc. There are three sectors in the laboratory-General lab, inoculation room and tissue culture room. The laboratory is fully equipped with necessary laboratory apparatus and instruments for conducting research work.
The Hub has conducted three interactive workshops for Botany-Zoology major students, higher secondary subject teachers and also for school students. The main objectives of the workshops were to promote education and research in biology or biotechnology and attract students to build their career in different fields of biological sciences. Eminent experts were invited from Gauhati University, Tezpur University and Assam Agriculture University to deliver talks and also to conduct a hands-on-training to foster learning and inspiration of participants towards the relevant field. Biotech Hub also organized an extension programme on “Scopes in Biotechnology” for the students at three higher secondary schools in remote areas. The Hub provides laboratory facilities for a PG teaching course (M.Sc. in Herbal Science & Technology) of the host institution. For their project work, thirty UG and twenty nine PG students utilized the facilities available at the hub. Out of eight research projects that the Hub supported, six have been completed and two are in progress.
